Ferndale Industrial Precinct:
Supporting the Western Sydney
Aerotropolis vision

The Western Sydney Aerotropolis Precinct Plan provides a framework for growth in agribusiness and related industries. The Ferndale Industrial Precinct plays a role in delivering this vision by repurposing the former Luddenham Quarry into a modern industrial and circular economy precinct that aligns with the key priorities of the Plan.

A Strategic Fit for the Aerotropolis

Located within the Agribusiness Precinct and adjacent to the Western Sydney International Airport, Ferndale Industrial Precinct will support local agribusiness supply chains and create jobs for Western Sydney. Its alignment with the Aerotropolis’ objectives can be seen through:

1
Accelerating the circular economy and sustainable waste solutions

The Ferndale Industrial Precinct will house an Advanced Resource Recovery Centre (ARRC) capable of recycling up to 85% of construction and demolition materials, drastically reducing Infill reliance. This supports NSW’s Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy and circular economy targets, ensuring valuable resources are recovered and reused efficiently. Additionally, the rehabilitation of the former quarry site will integrate best-practice environmental management, including biodiversity conservation, water quality improvements, and sustainable land use, further contributing to the Aerotropolis’ sustainability agenda.

2
Boosting economic growth and job creation

The Ferndale Industrial Precinct will be a key driver of economic activity, supporting sectors prioritised in the Aerotropolis Plan, such as:

  • Agribusiness – infrastructure to support agricultural storage, processing, and distribution.
  • Logistics and Freight – proximity to the airport enhances freight handling and logistics.
  • Advanced Manufacturing – modern facilities to support innovation and high-tech industries.

With significant employment opportunities created during both construction and operation, Ferndale Industrial Precinct will help strengthen Western Sydney’s position as a global economic hub and deliver long-term benefits to local communities.

3
Enhancing infrastructure and connectivity

The Aerotropolis Plan prioritises infrastructure investment, and Ferndale Industrial Precinct is designed to integrate seamlessly within this framework. The precinct will benefit from:

  • Proximity to major transport corridors – enabling efficient freight movement and business access.
  • Improved road networks and connectivity – reducing congestion and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Alignment with the broader Western Sydney growth strategy – enhancing industrial capabilities within the region.
4
Delivering environmental and sustainability outcomes

The Ferndale Industrial Precinct is committed to high environmental standards, ensuring compliance with the NSW EPA, ISO environmental standards, and the Aerotropolis sustainability benchmarks. Key initiatives include:

  • Stringent environmental monitoring and compliance – ensuring responsible waste management.
  • Use of advanced technology – such as baling and wrapping, reducing environmental impact.
  • Land rehabilitation and biodiversity protection – aligning with the Aerotropolis’ green infrastructure goals.

Ferndale: Western Sydney’s Future

By delivering sustainable infrastructure, economic growth, and environmental leadership, the Ferndale Industrial Precinct directly supports the Western Sydney Aerotropolis Precinct Plan. It’s not just about development it’s about reshaping Western Sydney’s industrial landscape for future generations.
